What’s New for the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT?

The 2018 model year welcomed the SRT as the top-level trim of the Dodge Durango, which is a midsize SUV from Chrysler and is currently in its third production cycle. Notable for its high level of performance, the SRT is powered by a vast, 6.4-liter HEMI V8 that produces 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. This SRT engine—which is pinned to an 8-speed shiftable automatic transmission—is, by far, the most powerful workhorse in the Durango’s production history. The V8 is accompanied by a performance shift indicator to display the ideal speed for the shift point to deliver maximum acceleration. In addition, the SRT is the only one out of the eight available trims with standard all-wheel drive. With its powertrain configuration, the SRT can haul up to 8,700 lbs. Apart from Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration and a rearview camera now being standard, there were no changes made to the 2018 model over the previous iterations.

There are three leather-trimmed rows in the Durango SRT cabin designed to accommodate up to six people: two people in each row. Cargo capacity in the SUV is measured at 17.2 cubic feet, with the ability to fold down the rear seats to maximize it at 84.5 cubic feet. The pair of seats in the first and second rows are heated. Ventilating ability is added on the front ones, each of which has 8-way power adjustability and 4-way power lumbar support. Also standard is a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel and a driver-side memory system. For comfort and convenience, the SRT—in addition to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay— includes features such as remote proximity keyless entry, push-button engine start, remote start, three-zone automatic climate control, an electronic vehicle information center, Bluetooth wireless technology, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage-door opener, a Wi-Fi hotspot for 4G LTE wireless Internet access, a nine-speaker 506-watt Alpine sound system, two USB ports and an audio jack for playing media from portable devices, dual USB ports for charging devices, HD Radio technology, GPS navigation, one-year trial subscriptions to SiriusXM satellite radio and Guardian Connected Services, a trio of five-year SiriusXM trial subscriptions to Traffic and Travel Link, and the Uconnect infotainment integration system anchored with an 8.4-inch touchscreen display.

Plus, the SRT has a feature known as SRT Performance Pages, which consists of statistics such as braking, engine horsepower, and dynamic handling displayed on the touchscreen. For safety, features such as four-wheel traction control, an accident response system, electronic stability control, speed control, hill start assist, front and rear park assist, trailer sway damping, and seven airbags join the previously mentioned rearview camera. Theft deterrence on the SRT is provided by combining keyless entry with engine immobilization and a panic alarm.
