Few full-size truck brands have cultivated and maintained a huge following than RAM. Customers have always been drawn to its combination of engine power, ride comfortability, and a high-quality cabin. Since 1981, it has been the recipient of Motor Trend’s “Truck of the Year” title an enviable five times. The most popular entries of the RAM line-up are also the most affordable. There’s the RAM 1500, which is a half-ton truck; and the RAM 2500, which is a three-quarter-ton vehicle. The 2017 model year—part of the nameplate’s fourth generation of production—does not present any major alterations or enhancements on both models. However, that’s a minor quibble, if at all; either one is an excellent full-size truck choice.

Performance

Whether you go with the 1500 or the 2500, you’d be getting a formidable power plant. On the 1500, you can choose between the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque and the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Since the 2500 is a heavy-duty truck, it eschews the Pentastar engine in favor of the 6.4-liter HEMI V8, which provides 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. However, the output of the 5.7-liter HEMI is reduced to 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Ultimately, though, you’d never have a problem using either truck as a workload machine or an everyday driving machine. The Ram 1500 can tow up to 10,620 pounds and the 2500 almost doubles that, towing up to 17,980 pounds.

Appearance

Both the Ram 1500 and 2500 are available in numerous colors. They come in subtle colors, such as silver, gray, black, and maroon, as well as the brighter and more exotic colors like Hills Green, School Bus Yellow and Robin Egg Blue.

Safety

The ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera is available on both trucks. This is great for personal and commercial use. One of the best security features that they both include is the Sentry Key® Theft Deterrent System. It helps with preventing thw wrong people starting your car and shuts off the engine in less than 5 seconds if someone tries to use an invalid key.
